What you get

Built to last.
Built right.

Most dedicated pet-friendly yard builds (K9 turf area, shaded run, cool hardscape, drainage, and fencing) range from $18,000 for a focused dog run up to $120,000+ for a full pet-and-family outdoor environment with pool, shade structure, and lighting. We build for one dog, a multi-dog household, or boarding/rescue facilities.

  • K9-rated turf with antimicrobial Envirofill — controls odor, drains urine, no compaction.
  • Shaded dog runs with misting, ramadas, and cool-deck surfaces under 100°F.
  • Cool-touch pavers and travertine — won't burn paw pads in 115° summers.
  • Dog-safe pool design — Baja shelves, easy-exit steps, paw-friendly coping.
  • Secure perimeter and gate hardware — no dig-outs, no jump-overs.
  • Drainage engineered for daily rinse-downs and monsoon storms.
How it works

What to expect.

We start with a walk of your yard and a conversation about your animals — breed, size, energy level, problem behaviors, escape habits, and what's not working today. Then we 3D-render the yard with pet-specific zones (run, relief area, shade, water) and build it in 2–6 weeks depending on scope.

Before You Install Turf for Dogs… Watch This First
Common questions

Pet-Friendly Backyards FAQ.

Is artificial turf actually safe for dogs?+

Yes — when it's the right turf on the right base. We install K9-rated turf with flow-through backing and antimicrobial Envirofill infill, on a 3–4 inch engineered aggregate base that drains urine in seconds. No pooling, no odor, no bacterial buildup. We avoid cheap big-box turf and rubber-crumb infill — both fail fast with dogs.

Will my dog burn their paws on the turf or pavers in summer?+

Premium cooling-infill turf runs significantly cooler than budget turf, and a quick rinse drops surface temps another 30°. For hardscape we steer pet clients toward travertine, light-color pavers, or shaded concrete — all materials that stay paw-safe in direct sun. Dark stamped concrete and black flagstone get hot; we won't install those in primary pet zones.

How do you handle dog urine and odor?+

Three layers: antimicrobial Envirofill infill, a permeable turf backing, and a 3–4 inch open-graded aggregate base that lets urine drain straight through to the soil. A weekly rinse keeps it fresh. For multi-dog households or boarding facilities we add a dedicated relief zone with extra drainage and enzyme treatment.

Can you design a pool that's safe for our dogs?+

Yes — that's one of our favorite scopes. Dog-safe pools include a Baja shelf or shallow shelf the dog can rest on, easy-exit steps with paw-friendly coping (no sharp travertine edges), and we often add a ramp or doggy ladder on one end. We can also add Clearview frameless glass fencing so the dog can see the pool but not access it unsupervised.

Will the fence really keep my escape artist in?+

If we build it. We install fence footings deep enough to stop diggers, gate hardware that latches automatically, and heights matched to the breed (we ask). For known escape artists we also add a 12-inch concrete mow strip along the perimeter that physically blocks digging under.

We have a rescue, a senior dog, and a puppy. Can you design for all of them?+

Yes — multi-dog households are common for us. We zone the yard: a soft relief area for the puppy in training, shaded rest pads with cool surfaces for the senior, and an open run for the rescue with extra energy. Real design solves real problems.

Do you build for cats and indoor/outdoor pets?+

Yes. Catios, enclosed runs with overhead netting, and shaded perching structures are growing requests. We also build chicken-friendly yards (separate coop pad with drainage), tortoise enclosures, and pet birds aviaries on request.

What about Arizona wildlife — coyotes, javelina, snakes?+

Real concern in most Valley neighborhoods. We can add coyote rollers to fence tops, javelina-resistant gate hardware, and snake fencing (1/4-inch mesh buried 6 inches deep) along the perimeter. We'll walk your specific neighborhood risk and design accordingly.

How do I clean and maintain my K9 turf with dogs?+

Weekly maintenance is simple: rinse the turf with a garden hose 1–2 times per week to flush urine through the base, pick up solid waste daily (just like grass), and brush the turf with a stiff-bristle broom every month to keep blades upright — dog run paths and gate areas flatten fastest and need the most attention. Every 3–5 years in high-traffic dog zones, you'll need a light top-dressing of infill sand and a brush-in to restore blade support. For multi-dog households or during monsoon season, a quick enzyme spray every 2–4 weeks keeps everything fresh. No mowing, no fertilizing, no mud.

Does dog urine stain or discolor artificial turf?+

Not with our spec. Cheap turf on compacted soil will yellow and smell within months. Our K9-rated turf has UV-stabilized blades that don't fade, and the antimicrobial Envirofill infill plus open-graded base drains urine before it can crystallize on the surface. If you notice any residue, a rinse takes care of it — no stains, no dead patches like natural grass.

How do I keep my turf from smelling with multiple dogs?+

Three things: drainage, infill, and routine. The open-graded aggregate base lets urine drain straight through instead of pooling. Antimicrobial Envirofill kills bacteria at the source. And a weekly rinse plus monthly enzyme treatment keeps everything neutral. For 3+ dogs or heavy-use yards, we add a dedicated relief zone with extra drainage — basically a dog bathroom that rinses itself.

Can I use a pressure washer on my turf?+

Yes — on low setting, from 12+ inches away, and with the nozzle at a shallow angle. Pressure washing is great for a deep clean after monsoon dust storms or heavy use. Just don't blast directly into the infill or you can displace it. We show every client the right technique during final walkthrough.

Do I need to replace the infill over time?+

Envirofill antimicrobial infill lasts 8–12 years under normal residential use. In heavy commercial or multi-dog settings you might top-dress around year 5–6. We inspect infill depth during any service call and can replenish if needed — it's a quick process, not a full reinstall.

What about leaves, dust, and monsoon debris on the turf?+

Blow it off with a leaf blower on low, or rinse it away with a hose. Turf doesn't stain from leaves or dust like concrete does. For heavy monsoon mud splash from adjacent dirt areas, a quick rinse restores the look. Some clients add a perimeter strip of rock or pavers to reduce debris migration.

How often should I have the turf professionally serviced?+

Most residential dog owners do fine with DIY weekly rinses and monthly brushing. We offer an annual deep-clean service that includes power rinsing, infill inspection, blade grooming, and drain line check — especially popular for multi-dog households and before holiday gatherings.
