Most pool builders never think about your dog. We do. From the first sketch we plan how your dog gets in, how they get out, what their paws touch, and what the chemistry does to their coat. The result is a pool the whole household — including the four-legged members — uses every week, not a feature they avoid.
Dog-friendly pool builds typically run $75,000–$160,000 depending on size, shelf design, ramp integration, and surrounding hardscape. Add-ons like dog showers, splash zones, and Clearview frameless glass fencing run $4,000–$18,000.
We walk the yard with you and your dog, ask about swim habits, breed, and size, then design a pool that works for both humans and animals. Construction runs 10–16 weeks depending on scope.
Pebble-Tec and quartz finishes handle dog nails fine — we use these on every dog-friendly build. Plaster can show scratches over time with heavy dog use; we steer dog clients toward pebble. Vinyl liners are a no-go with dogs.
Saltwater pools at proper levels (3,000 ppm) are gentler on dog coats and skin than traditional chlorine. We also keep cyanuric acid (CYA) low and use UV or ozone secondary sanitation to reduce chlorine load. Dogs can drink small amounts of pool water without harm at these levels — though we still recommend a fresh water bowl poolside.
We size cartridge filters one tier larger for dog households and add a skimmer sock. Plan on rinsing cartridges every 2–3 weeks during heavy swim season — about 5 minutes of work. Cheaper sand or DE filters clog faster with dog hair; cartridge is the right call.
Yes. We can integrate a permanent submerged ramp during a remodel or install a removable Skamper-Ramp style exit on existing pools. Permanent ramps look better and don't get knocked loose during pool parties.
Auto-covers work but most dog owners prefer Clearview frameless glass fencing — the dog can see the pool, you can see the dog, but no unsupervised access. Required by Arizona pool barrier code anyway.
Not when chemistry is dialed in. We balance for human swimmers (which is well within dog-safe range) and provide a pool care guide. Dogs that drink large volumes of salt water can get an upset stomach — same rule as the ocean. Keep a fresh water bowl poolside and they self-regulate.
Yes — we've designed pools for households with three, four, even five large dogs. Wider Baja shelves (10–14 feet), dual exit points, and oversized filtration handle multi-dog swim time without issues.
Yes — service dog organizations, K9 units, and rehab/hydrotherapy facilities. Different scope (deeper end, underwater treadmill integration, commercial filtration) but we've done it.
