Bond Beam

The reinforced concrete ring at the top of the pool shell that anchors coping, tile, and deck.

The bond beam is the structural collar at the top of a gunite pool. It's typically 8–12 inches thick with doubled rebar, designed to resist soil pressure pushing in and to provide a stable substrate for the waterline tile and coping. A weak bond beam telegraphs into cracked tile and lifted coping within a few years.
