How long does it take to build a pool in Arizona?+
From signed contract to swim-ready, a typical Arizona pool takes 12–16 weeks. Permitting and HOA approval run 2–4 weeks, excavation through plaster runs 8–12 weeks. Monsoon storms and city inspection backlogs can add 1–2 weeks. We send weekly photo updates so you always know what phase you're in.
How much does a custom pool cost in Phoenix and Scottsdale?+

Do I really need a fixed-price contract?+
Yes. Arizona's pool industry runs on lowball quotes and change orders that double the final price. Every AE Outdoor Living contract is fixed-price — we engineer the soil, finalize the design, and lock the number before excavation. No surprise charges for rock, plumbing reroutes, or 'oversights.'
What licenses should an Arizona pool builder carry?+
Arizona requires an ROC license for any pool contract over $1,000. Look for ROC categories that cover pool construction (CR-6), swimming pool service (CR-66 / KA-6), and the surrounding trades — concrete, electrical, masonry. What's the difference between plaster, Pebble Tec, and glass tile?+
Plaster is the budget standard — 7–10 year lifespan, smoothest underfoot, stains in Arizona hard water. Pebble Tec / Pebble Sheen is the Arizona default — 15–20 year lifespan, durable, holds color. Do you handle HOA submittals?+
Yes — across DC Ranch, Silverleaf, Desert Mountain, Grayhawk, Troon, Tatum Ranch, Anthem, Estrella, and most Valley master-planned communities. We prepare the architectural packet, attend the design review meeting, and revise the plans until approved. You don't talk to your HOA. We do.
Do I need to drain my yard or do anything before construction starts?+
No. Once permits are issued we handle everything — temporary fencing, dust control, debris haul-off, equipment access. We protect existing pavers, irrigation, and landscape where possible, and document anything that has to come out so there are no surprises.
How does pool financing work?+
We work with HFS Financial, Lyon Financial, and LightStream. Soft-pull pre-approval doesn't affect your credit score, terms run 7–20 years, rates range based on credit and term. Most Arizona homeowners finance the pool and pay the surrounding outdoor living in cash or with a HELOC. Full breakdown at /financing.
What's actually covered by your warranty?+

Do you build the whole backyard or just the pool?+

Do you remodel existing pools?+

What if my pool needs ongoing service after the build?+
We offer optional weekly service plans ($145–$225/month) — chemicals, brushing, equipment checks, filter cleans. You're not locked in. Many homeowners self-maintain, and we train you on the equipment at hand-off.
Do I need a salt system or chlorine?+
Most Arizona homeowners choose salt — softer water, easier on skin and swimsuits, less chlorine smell, lower ongoing chemical cost. Salt cells last 3–5 years and run $700–$1,200 to replace. Chlorine tabs are cheaper upfront but harsher on equipment. We spec what fits your usage.
Do you build in cities outside Phoenix and Scottsdale?+
